Subject: Public Domain Legal Citations Date: Mon, 10 Mar 1997 10:57:34 -0500 From: Barbara Duval To: citation@teo.uscourts.gov Please give serious consideration to adopting the court citation format advanced by the ABA as the official citation. This format is clear and precise. With such a format, cases could be reported in books, on CDs, online, or on the Internet quickly, without having to go through the hands of a commercial publisher (e.g. West Group). It makes little sense for the public to pay for state and federal courts, and their decisions, but have no way of researching or citing to them without resorting to a commerical publisher. With a vendor neutral format, legal research would be less expensive for all of us. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Barbara Duval, Librarian Smith Helms Mulliss & Moore (but speaking only for myself) Charlotte, NC
